Act 1st identify Health & Safety issues in businesses and provide first class training at affordable prices, carried by friendly, approachable and experienced staff.

Act 1st offers a comprehensive selection of first aid, basic life support and manual handling courses. We offer various manual handling courses which can be underaken within the workplace or at a training venue.

Muscular disorder injuries account for a considerable percentage of sickness absence and can result in a depletion in the workplace, effecting output and productivity.

  • Adrienne Cox

    Adrienne worked for Aneurin Bevan University Health board for 32 years, firstly as a District Nurse in the Newport area and then within Health and Safety as a Manual Handling Advisor. Spending 15 years in this role, Adrienne successfully attained her Post Graduate Certificate in Education, was responsible for staff in several Hospital and Community settings within the Health board, completing various Health and Safety assessments, developing policies and protocols, investigating serious reportable incidences, gave advice regarding training, purchasing equipment and developing departmental strategies regarding their Health and Safety responsibilities. For 4 years she also worked part time for a well known Health and Safety company in Bristol where she honed her skill as a trainer delivering various Health & Safety topics including Manual Handling and First Aid. She is passionate about all businesses having the tools to keep staff safe within their working environments and the philosophy that:

    “a healthy workforce is a more productive workforce”

  • Delmie Othen
    Adrienne

    A former police officer Delmie became a Personal Safety Adviser/Case Manager for one of the largest health Boards in the country, where he was responsible for the training of 13,000 staff. His role included the training of staff in a variety of subjects including Health & Safety, Management of Aggression & Violence, Control & Restraint and Breakaway Skills, as well as teaching staff how to deal with aggression and violence. He was also responsible for personal safety audits within healthcare settings, as well as patient, job and environmental assessments. Delmie was one of the founder group members responsible for the design and construction of the All Wales Violence and Aggression Training Passport Scheme, which later went on to become the Welsh template for all violence and aggression training.

    Since starting Act1st in 2014 we have been providing Health and Safety advice, assessments and training to GP surgeries, nurseries, nursing agencies, sports clubs, Women’s Institutes and Construction businesses. Let us do for you what we have done for them!
